Bob Clearmountain is known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel and more. Apogee has taken an interest in his creative effects chain, and has collaborated with Clearmountain to create a plugin domain that emulates the spaces, dimensions and atmospheres his most celebrated mixes are known for.
The plugin collection comes with a selection of presets that make it easy to recreate the sonic environment of some of Clearmountain’s mixes. Advanced tabs will allow you to see what’s under the hood and will show you some of Clearmountain’s techniques, in an effort to get you creating your own mix domains. Custom impulses of Clearmountain’s spaces will give you access to the reverb he uses on some of his records.
Apogee says this effects plugin chain has been “developed over decades, involving an entire studio’s worth of hardware gear – live echo chambers, delays, harmonisers, de-essers, EQs and a large format analogue mixing console. And lots of patch cords, many patch cords!”. The plugin domain is designed to be an accessible solution for reproducing the interconnection of hardware within a DAW, which is “almost impossible” to achieve with individual plugins, Apogee says.
Clearmountain’s Domain is available now on the Apogee website for $349.
